End of Account of Ashley in Production

Dearest Ashley,

We won't be updating your journey through life in this blog anymore.

We've decided to remind Che-che and yourself about your journey in a shared blog for the two of you. So, to know what your experiences were growing up in our family, visit the blog entitled Princess Diaries Year 1. :D

Once again, welcome to our world, Lil' One!

Papa, Mama and Che-che love you lots!

You're Here!

Dearest Mei-mei,

Mama and Papa tried to get a bit of sleep though there were so many reasons why that was difficult. But Papa had been to work yesterday and thus had been on the go since early morning so Papa dozed off now and then. The same applied to Mama. She was so tired too that she needed to sleep. But you were making it difficult for her due to the contractions and other discomforts.

Slightly after 2 am, Mama felt an urge to push. The midwife had said that if Mama felt this, she could let her know and she could check how far along the labour was. Otherwise, the doctor had instructed that Mama be checked only at 6 am.

Mama asked the midwife to check as the urge was strong so she did and found that you were totally ready to come out! That was so quick! We were totally surprised!

The midwife quickly prepared all the necessary equipment and called the doctor to let her know. We felt bad for the doctor as she had only just left the hospital only 2 hours before. We figured that she'd hardly had anytime to rest. What a life!

Anyway, the midwife then coached Mama on how to help push you out. Mama got the technique fairly quickly and the midwife had to tell Mama to stop pushing so strongly as we had to wait for the doctor to arrive - which she did very soon after.

When the doctor had arrived, Mama started pushing again and you were out in no time! :D You're such a cute little thing! The nurses and midwife immediately did their usual routine of cleaning you and completing other tests, etc. You weigh 2.955 kg at birth and measured 49 cm in height. :D

Welcome to the family, Ashley. :D

It took some time before they brought us up to the ward and they brought you to the nursery. We were given Room 3222. Mama and Papa tried to get a bit of rest as we'd not slept at all. The nurses brought you for all kinds of tests throughout the rest of the day.

Later in the morning, Papa brought Che-che to visit you. She loves you SO much! Everytime you cried, Che-che would stroke you and soothe you. :D

During lunch time, Gong-gong and Popo came to visit you. Aunty Rachel dropped by as well. After that, Aunties Audrey and Karen came to visit as well.

In the afternoon, Grandma came and Che-che Wenmin came after that. Uncle Bentley came too as did Kow-fu and Kow-moh.

In the evening, after everyone had left, you were brought back to the nursery to rest.

That was the first day of your life, Lil' One. Welcome!

Oh! Your birth date is significant, Lil' One. It coincides with Mama's secondary school's Founder's Day. We hope that you will be attending that school too!

Papa, Mama and Che-che love you!

Doctor's Appointment

Dearest Mei-mei,

We'd rescheduled your doctor's appointment to today instead of the following Monday as Mama had been having discharges the whole week since Saturday. It was necessary for us to get a proper check done for your good.

When we got there, Mama went up to see the doctor first as the car park was quite crowded. The clinic was quite empty and the doctor seemed to be keeping to her schedule of appointments so you got to see her right on time! This was the first time ever! :D

The doctor initially thought that there was no problem; that your waterbag had not broken yet. But after she'd carried out the usual ultrasound scan, she realised that there had to be a leak as the waterbag had lost lots of water. She then checked again and decided that there had to be a leak.

The doctor thus told Mama that you had to be admitted immediately. The doctor then had to dash off to perform a surgery and happened to bump into Papa and Che-che at the entrance and told Papa about it.

We then waited for a while while they prepared for your admittance. When Mama was brought to the delivery suite, Papa and Che-che headed home.

Mama had to wait for a couple of hours before the doctor came to see you. By that time, the nurses had already set up monitors for your heartbeat and Mama's contractions. The doctor gave Mama something to accelerate the labour process before leaving. She'd expected you to only be ready to come out at about 6 am tomorrow.

Mama then settled down to wait.

Papa came back to keep Mama company about an hour after that. The nurses kept on coming in to track your progress. Ironically, they also kept on telling us to sleep while we could - when they kept on coming in and made noise and switched on the lights. :p Oh well!

Just before midnight, the doctor came to check on how you were. Mama had already progressed along very well. Mama was given an epidural so that she could endure the pain of the contractions. We were then told to wait for you to be ready. Again we thought that you would only come in the morning.

We're going to see you soon, Lil' One!

Papa and Mama love you!

False Alarm

Dearest Mei-mei,

We went to the hospital last night as Mama had been having a discharge in the evening. We were wondering if your water bag had broken and if you were ready to come meet us face-to-face. :D

Mama was put under observation for an hour where your heart beat and contractions were monitored.

After the doctor had checked Mama, it was decided that you were not ready yet so we were told that we could go home.

Papa and Che-che had been waiting for you the whole time outside as we couldn't be with Mama. Che-che was so patient in waiting for you. :D

Oh! We've put your car seat in the car. We shifted Che-che's seat to the other side so we put yours where Che-che has been used to sitting. Che-che was so obliging - she didn't mind giving up her space to you. :D

Papa, Mama and Che-che love you!

It's Almost Time

Dear Mei-mei,

We brought you to see your doctor again this afternoon. We had to wait a while as she had to dash off to perform an operation just before it was your turn to see her.

Che-che was so good! She waited for your doctor so patiently even when it stretched until quite late.

The doctor says that you are about 2.9 kg (plus or minus 500g!). She thinks that that is a good weight for you to be as if you are any heavier, it'll be difficult for you to come out and it'll be much more painful for Mama.

Mama has been suffering quite a bit lately - she has aches and pains in her leg and back and she also is kept awake by your tumbling around in her tummy. Mama hasn't had proper sleep in quite some time. And the situation is not going to improve when you're out as your body clock will take some time to sync with ours. Oh well ... Sleeplessness and tiredness continue.

We actually are quite stressed during this period as Papa has to attend something that he cannot skip during this time and we're worried that you'll decide to come during that event. :( We're praying that you won't, Lil' One.

We're also wondering when you'll decide to come. It's anytime now. If you grow too big, it'll be very difficult but at the same time, we want to let you decide. Mama has resolved to control her diet severely so she doesn't let you absorb too much refined sugars resulting in you putting on too much weight at this stage. :p It'll be a challenge as Mama likes sweet things. :p

Well, it's all in your hands. Come at a good time, Lil' One.

Papa, Mama and Che-che love you!

Heavy Baby

Dearest Mei-mei,

We went to see the baby doctor again today. She scanned you as per normal and the estimate is that you're about 2.9 kg now. That's very heavy, Lil' One. It looks like you're going to be as heavy as Che-che when you come out.

The doctor also checked the amount of water in the 'bag' you're in to ensure that you have enough to be safe and everything seems fine.

We've been preparing your things, Lil' One. We've gotten your bed, stroller and car seat all ready. Your clothes have been washed too. Now, we're just waiting for you to come.

Mama's been suffering quite a lot in the meantime. You're making life very difficult for her. Mama can't sleep properly and her whole body aches from carrying you around. Poor Mama!

Papa, Mama & Che-che love you!

Mei-mei's A Good Size

Dearest Mei-mei,

We went to see the gynae today for your regular checkup. We had to wait for quite some time as usual for the baby doctor to see us.

It is always exciting to watch the scan as we get to see you. The doctor scanned the size of your abdomen. Based on the circumference, you're almost 2 kg already! That's a good size! It means that if you decide to come out now, you're a healthy enough size! :D

Everything else looks a-ok! You seem to be totally fine, Lil' One!

Papa, Mama and Che-che love you!
